TRADITIONAL HOUSES TO LET - ALONISSOS GREECE

Situated in the “old village” on the small Greek island of Alonissos this accommodation is very special indeed and comprises two adjoining "traditional" renovated houses and a separate house in front comprising two studios.
Alonissos is a relatively small, quiet and unspoilt island just east of it's perhaps better known neighbours - Skiathos and Skopelos. You can glean a lot of information about the island from the internet and therefore I'll leave you to do your own research as to it's suitability for your holiday requirements. The old village is perched on top of the island at the south offering quite stunning, panoramic views in all directions and the accommodation takes full advantage of this. The properties are located at the edge of the village offering tranquillity and unsurpassed views to the sea. Forget all the average, fairly standardised apartments or studios normally associated with package holidays and consider treating yourself to something very special and certainly memorable.
OUR HOUSES Themed as blue and green – they are two old houses completely and carefully renovated to retain all the original features yet incorporate modern comforts including air-conditioning and contemporary bathroom and kitchen facilities. Such was the nature of the project that Elma, the Greek lady owner, received an award from the EU “Leader” scheme to enable the traditional element of the renovation to be maintained throughout. Elma is, by profession, an architect and also has an antique shop called “Gorgona” (mermaid) in the old village. Both facts become obvious as you step inside the houses or studios.

The houses share a beautiful garden courtyard, partially shaded and each with table and chairs suitable for outside dining. Each house can accommodate up to four people having a double bed on the ground floor, a single bed on the first floor with an additional foldaway single bed available. It is worth noting that the double beds are the traditional style – built into a recess as part of the fabric of the house and complete with mosquito nets. The shower rooms are on the ground floor. The modern kitchen facilities are on the first floor and are cleverly contained in a single roll-top front unit which can be closed away. Each has a small balcony offering magnificent views.

OUR STUDIOS These are ground and first floor and offer breathtaking, panoramic views from their elevated position with nothing except the slope to the sea in front of them. Both studios feature stripped wood floors, tasteful decor (including some items from the antique shop!) and comfortable double beds with mosquito nets. Kitchen facilities include grill and oven in addition to the usual hotplates. Another asset is the electrically heated water supply should the solar power be undernourished!. TERRACE STUDIOS In one large room, the ground floor has a double bed with an additional foldaway single bed, kitchen facilities, dining table and chairs and shower and toilet which are conveniently separate. The outstanding feature of this studio is the large terrace (about 4m square) which offers unobstructed, panoramic views to be savoured from the comfortable terrace furniture.

BALCONY STUDIOS Accessed from the courtyard of the houses this studio has one main room with kitchen and dining facilities, a single bed and a small balcony offering similar views. The separate bedroom has a double bed and shower and toilet facilities adjoining.

GENERAL INFORMATION The nearest beach (Mikros Mourtias) is about a 15-20 minute walk downhill and is generally very quiet. (there are no sunbeds or tavernas so take your own supplies). The nearest supermarket and tavernas are less than 5 minutes walk and if you have a car or scooter, parking is also about 5 minutes walk. As I often read in brochures “not suitable for those with walking difficulties” does apply though any elevated position offering these views will carry this penalty. Travelling to Alonissos independently will depend on your point of departure but the nearest airport is on the neighbouring island of Skiathos. The harbour is a five minute taxi ride from the airport. A very regular service for passengers to Alonissos is provided by “Hellenic Seaways” (www.hellenicseaways.gr) on their fast “Dolphins and Cats”. Car ferries are also available.
